Monty Gilbreath

Councilman Monty Gilbreath was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was the oldest of four children and moved around as his father was a salesman for the Quaker Oats Company and then became an owner/operator of multiple restaurant facilities. Monty attended elementary school in Montana, middle school in Minnesota, and high school in Nebraska. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1977 and was recruited to further his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln while playing football for the Cornhuskers.

Monty married his high school sweetheart, Harla “Hutchinson” Gilbreath in August 1978. He spent the next 7 years assisting with the operations of two family-owned McDonald’s restaurants and five family-owned Mexican food restaurants. In 1985, Monty made the decision to leave the family businesses in hopes to raise his growing family in one location, and he pursued a job at the new McDonald’s restaurant here. He will never forget how impressed he was when he asked a few “locals” of their thoughts on the Douglas community. A good friend told him that “Douglas is the best kept secret in Wyoming”.

The Gilbreath’s have made it their home ever since.

Monty was very involved in his three children’s extracurricular activities as they grew up in the community. He was an active member of the Douglas Youth Recreation Commission, the Douglas Rotary Club, and the Douglas Youth Development Services. During his time on the DYRC, he volunteered countless hours facilitating, scheduling, fundraising, and coordinating events. In 1995, he chose to make a career change and was hired as the Recreation Director for CCSD #1. In 2004, he also took on the Food Service Director position for CCSD #1. Monty and his wife, Harla, have proudly worked for CCSD #1 for over 50 years combined and have watched all three of their children graduate from Douglas High School.

Monty is humbled to be elected to the Douglas City Council and looks forward to being a part of yet another avenue for positively impacting the lives of the next generation for the City of Douglas. He is and always will be looking for ways to make Douglas a better place to live, work and play.  The City is very happy to have Councilman Gilbreath on board and look forward to working with him!
